kind is...

During the first two weeks of in school and remote learning, the children read about and represented two of our school rules; safe and responsible. This week and next we will explore our third school rule; we are kind.

As we slowly and thoughtfully prepare to welcome all 19 Kindergarteners to the classroom, this is the perfect time to think about the importance of kindness.

Cohort A began this work on Monday and Tuesday. We used the word kind to describe many of our actions and interactions; small and big. For example, when Nella and Peyton shared their birthday posters, we listened to their story. We were a kind audience. We asked questions and pointed to pictures we loved.

Kind is listening when a friend shares their story.

Many of the children said that kind is caring for nature and the trees. Helen drew a picture of entering the woods quietly, because kind is not scaring the animals. She shared her drawing at the end of our community workshop.

Kind is respecting and loving the trails, trees, and animals.

All of the Kindergarteners drew detailed pictures representing kindness. They shared their work with their peers in our outdoor classroom. We snapped our fingers after each share, celebrating kindness and all of our powerful work.

In the coming days the children will help to put their recordings and images into a video share about kindness. I will also update our blog with documentation of their representations.

Kind is celebrating the work of our peers!
