This week we connected our work as storytellers during writing workshop to the children's excitement about their many snowy adventures. The children have been eager to share their snow stories and connect with their peers, often telling stories during our morning meeting. I asked families to email pictures of their child exploring, working, or playing in the snow. With printed pictures in hand, the children used our word writing strategies to add three labels; stretching words like rubber bands and listening for all of the sounds, using names and labels from our classroom, or using a book to find a word!
We connected this work to our remote morning meeting. The children had the opportunity to share their snow stories over Zoom. They used their labeled picture and what we know about being a storyteller to tell us who was there, where they were, and what happened!
What's your snow story?
On Thursday we used connecting words to retell the important parts of a favorite snow story; The Snowy Day. The Kindergarteners used pictures and words to show what happened first, next, then and finally. We needed to activate book talk power, picture power, and sound power to help us retell The Snowy Day!
We had to also take some time in the fresh snow to create our own snow stories at school!
