Today was our first day of Kindergarten!
We had snacks and read alouds outside on the grass. We went on a morning hike and the children eagerly shared many stories while navigating the trails. This was one of our most beautiful moments; sharing and connecting amongst the trees. It will be important for our morning hikes to continue.
While leading the way, Peyton called back to her peers, "Look out for the roots!"
We practiced the morning routine and what it looks like when we gather together for a meeting. We spent time learning about how to safely take off a mask outside and ensured we washed our hands and used hand sanitizer throughout the day. The Kindergarteners should feel proud of their work being safe and responsible.
In the afternoon we set up the computer to share a greeting with our peers at home, saying our names with a warm wave. We can greet our friends when together and apart.
The children read books as part of our morning routine, becoming familiar with their personal work space.
Our names are important words. We introduced the morning message today and looked for words we could read- our names! We found and circled our names. We will practice, work and play with our names a lot at the beginning of Kindergarten. What's your name?
We read the book All Are Welcome and talked about the word welcome; What does it mean to welcome and how does it feel to be welcomed?
Jillian shared that to welcome means everybody can go.
In our community, welcome means you have a place and a space here. You belong here! I hope all of the Kindergarteners felt welcomed today.

A wonderful first week!
