readers learn about the world

Readers look, think, and read!

Last week we spent reading workshop reading our classroom; finding labels and signs that we could look at, think about, and read.

Children read our calendar, labels on the math shelf, number posters, the schedule, stop signs and more labels!

It is important for the children to know that they are all readers. They read our classroom every day, from looking for and reading their name when they sign in to looking at the schedule and reading when snack is.

This week we learned that readers read signs to learn about the world and they read books to learn about the world. A learn about the world book teaches you.

The children practiced private reading with their own collection of learn about the world books. Every child then shared something they thought about and learned in their book.
