We have been adding sight words to our growing libraries.
We have been noticing that you can find sight words within words, listen for the sounds in some sight words, and use sight words to build rhyming words. This week we worked with the word an and words with an at the end. We also found the word an within the sight word can. We have practiced writing and building an words, rhyming an words, and working with the word can to ask and answer questions.
On our remote Wedneday your child will have a book written by Sidney called I Can. They will also have their own I Can Book to draw pictures in to match the pattern; Look at me. I can ______ .
In the pictures below, the children used picture power, sound power (rhyming) and sight word power to fill in the missing letters for each word on our morning message; van, pan, can.
Then we introduced a new word family book; an.
Zosia reads her an family book!
We also played a fun new movement game. Using the word can we practiced asking a question and answering it by moving our bodies a certain way. For example, the question was, Can you snap your fingers? If you can snap your fingers, you move your body closer to the middle, then move it back to the edge of the meeting area. This provided authentic practice with the word can, a little movement during our meeting, and an opportunity to learn even more about our community members! Things we can all do; make safe choices, keep our masks on, and read our names! Did you know that some of the Kindergarteners can tie their own shoes?
