On Friday we connected our work celebrating and sharing our words to the true story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We talked about how Martin Luther King believed words are important, just like we do.
We learned how he used his powerful words to bring people together and to share love. We learned how his words and courage helped and inspired, how he worked hard to ensure everyone was welcome. We also talked about what our world looked like during his story and what our world looks like now; our words and our work as community members will always be important and ongoing.
Prior to reading his story, I pulled out some words we are familiar with. We used these words to help shape our conversation. The children made connections to these words; peace, community, together and love. We used these words to talk about King's story and what we learned from his story.
What powerful words can we use? What are our big words?
Why is it important we share our words with the world?
NP- Our big words bring people together.
KM- Our words change the world, Martin's BIG words are very important.
OC- Our words make people feel happy and that's good. It's good to use these words.
PC- Everyone in the book at first was not allowed, but then it changed, Martin's words helped to change the story into something else.
As the children stated, our words have the power to create change.
What are your big words?
Can you add to our list?
What words will you share with the world today?
