Living Things
Following break we explored nonfiction literature about living things and what living things need. We started with a book about mother animals and their eggs. Children talked about the topic of our nonfiction text and used pictures and words to show three details from the book.
As readers and scientists we continued our learning about living things by reading and writing about what living things need to grow and survive.
We connected our learning to the planting of seeds; what do seeds need to grow? What do flowers- a living thing- need to survive?
Beckett's family donated a Butterfly Garden for each Kindergartener earlier this year! We used a How-To Plant a Butterfly Garden book and a collection of literature about seeds and flowers to help the children plant their own Butterfly Garden. We then made sure the seeds had what they needed to grow.

One thing we learned about living things is that living things need other living things to survive! This reminded us of our community and how we all have a part. We also need each other for inspiration and support.
This week Kayleigh inspired us with a beautiful Spring flower she developed with the help of peer feedback! With her final draft as our guide, the children drew their own colorful flowers.
Their flowers were the front of a kind note for Mother's Day- a day to celebrate motherhood and all of those who have helped us grow. Living things need each other. It seemed fitting to send the children's little sprouts home with their kind notes!
